well i have been entertained for the last 2 days.. Wednesday in the cricket, Thursday having Fun with Dick and Jane..
Wednesday, went to the University Oval, Dunedin's hope of hosting international cricket in the future, near Unipol, to watch a one day game between Otago and Canterbury.. not a bad crowd, considering it was in the middle of the week, and it was quite cold actually.. in fact, the match got shortened coz of rain earlier in the day.. fortunately there was only one delay for rain after that, and it was definitely a game to remember.. probably the best game of cricket i've watched not on television esp when compared to last year's game between Otago and Northern Districts, which was the first at the University Oval and turned out to be a dud due to the crappy summer that NZ was having in 2004-05.. oh well at least admission to that one was free.. had to part $10 this time but it was definitely worth it, esp when Dunedin is missing out on all things international this year...
anyway Otago scored 29o plus in 47 overs, with several big hits along the way.. Canterbury needed 293 to win and they got off to a very good start and reached 150 without loss.. Shannie Stewart made a century.. just before that though, the game was delayed again when Greg Todd broke his ankle.. took half-an-hour to get the ambulance and send him to hospital.. looked p bad from the hillside terraces and he did scream a lot.. anyway after Stewart and opening partner Astle got out, there was a brief collapse, before Peter Fulton and Chris Cairns steadied the ship with Cairns hitting a marvellous 47 with 6 sixes, including one onto the pavillion roof! then he went out hitting too far.. and Canterbury started to collapse to 260 something for 7 needing 23 runs more to win with 18 balls left.. after Todd's injury delay, Canterbury needed 283 to win from 45 overs.. good death bowling prevented big runs from being scored until the last over, when specialist Canterbury bowler, Stephen Cunis, hit 12 from 2 balls from Craig Cumming to suddenly win the game for Canterbury..
it was a stunning end to a game for Otago supporters but a fabulous finish to a terrific game of cricket.. i'm sure most were glad to have enjoyed some great hitting from both sides, and Canterbury with the New Zealand Blackcaps in their side, Astle, McMillan, Cairns, Fulton, McCullum, Harris, Wiseman..
Thursday, not so sporting but just as entertaining was Fun with Dick and Jane.. i thought it was p good.. funny as u'd expect from Jim Carrey.. but turns out to be pointing to all those big corporate scandals they've had in the US of A around 2000-01 with Enron and WorldCom, etc.. funny first thing they had on the credits was some of those ppl working at those companies..
SPOILERS WARNING:
best quote: "I'm working for Great Benefits.. it's called Enron" and then Dick and Jane like stop smiling..
best gig: when Dick and Jane wear that funny suit where they sound funny and rob that guy who humiliated Dick..
leave ur brains at home for this one, but yeah it's def worth it for good laughs.. like one day cricket..
and good news, New Zealand is playing Malaysia twice in the soccer! i'll be supporting Malaysia in this one coz i've alwyas been a Malaysian soccer fan..
