and i'm not at Design Weekend.. i'm not really in the camp mood atm, esp with a Genetics test on Monday night.. so did study and had a p quiet Saturday.. the good weather made it a bit hard for me to study.. but i pulled through and managed to.. until 3 pm..
don't u just hate that feeling where u feel u should study a bit more so that u know everything? u start to do so only to find there is quite a bit more than u think.. and that it's v hard to write up notes in one sheet of 6 weeks of stuff.. but in a nutshell here's the gist:
Mutation involves the process where a set of genes/chromosomes becomes different from the wildtype.. and then we go to complementation and recombination tests, Streisinger model for frameshift mutations, detecting mutagens with Ames test with Salmonella typhirum histidine auxotrophs, photodimers with thymine.. and then we did conjugation - bacterial sex - transduction, transformation, plasmids, bacteriophage - they do look really cool if ya seen those models - genomic islands - mobile elements carrying virulence factors - transposons, then how lytic and lysogenic cycle is controlled, why we make clones, insertion vectors, TA cloning with PCR fragments, gene library, gene sequencing with probes, target ,shotgun sequencing, screening libraries..
not too bad there.. plus how to make a recombination map..
it's good that i wrote day 35 of the 40 Days of Purpose about how God uses ur weakness to beat others.. and that kinda made me feel a bit better.. i've tried my hardest and just got to commit it to God..
anyway i should explain why i'm not at Design Weekend.. obviously the test, and also tomorrow evening will be p busy with Oscars planning.. not too far away now.. plus some footie action on Friday.. ah that was such a great night.. Otago beating Harbour, Wests Tigers thumping Cowboys in the first weekend of the NRL Finals, Sydney beating Geelong with a miracle goal in the dying seconds of the AFL Finals.. now if England win back the Ashes, that'll be sweet.. but 117-0 is not v good.. for the first time, rain could be England's saviour..
anyway, just feel that i needed to restrict my commitments.. i'm p commited to the Oscars but also need to remember my studies.. and i'm not quite in the camp mood atm so i decided to sacrifice Design Weekend.. it's just one of those things.. it's not a bad thing, nor does it make me less holier or what.. just it's a personal thing.. need to take a break from church things.. otherwise it'll get p mundane..
but it should be a great weekend.. in fact first of many.. got Sam's farewell on Friday night, then Ruth's 21st a week later.. and heaps of farewells in the horizon.. September's always eventful..
