well it's been a very very good weekend for me..
first, will get rid of the study coz that's boring... ok done...
Otago beat - no, shock - Canterbury at Fortress Jade on Friday night.. that was really a dream which i'm still trying to shake off.. obviously that wonderful dream hadn't finished coz the following night in Sydney, the Kiwis - unheralded, prob 100-1 to beat the invincible Australian league team on the ground of their own NRL Grand Final, oh there's a new coach, and they're missing key players like Benji Marshall, etc. - shock the Kangaroos 38-28, having led 18-0 for most of the first half until that stupid ref's poor calls brought them back into the game.. felt like a dream at the end of it.. prob could have been.. but like Otago's win it was reality.. still smiling..
to Sunday and what a gorgeous day it was in Dunners!! and in the end, Pastor Mike - who is quite the rugby man himself too - did call up Chris Smylie at family time and he got a chocolate.. imagine if Otago beat Auckland next week.. well don't imagine coz it'll happen.. Otago's the Sydney Swans and Wests Tigers of the NPC.. anyway Lusi was actually right, Chris actually knew who i was.. p cool talking to someone i saw on the Rugby Channel on Friday night and for the last couple of months, following Otago's progress.. yeah and i was p cool talking to him.. shook hands and i just congratulated him, asked him whether he partied hard after the game.. then Dave Marsh came.. anyway looks like Dunedin Elim Christian Centre has another star in its ranks, which was clear to see when Wai took a pic with Chris.. Chris and I are just gonna be mates.. i'll be the guy in church who always goes up for chocolates and sometimes gives good prophecy.. well that's all the Holy Spirit..
and on that, that message on Sunday morning had been with me for a while, as most blog readers would know, i actually wrote abt it.. just felt that it was so appropriate right now esp for students, the whole David-without-armour-which-u-always-wear-to-face-the-greatest-warrior-in-living-history-yet-still-managed-to-kill-him-thanks-to-God's-given-talent-with-two-stones-and-a-slingshot thing.. i have told quite a few ppl abt it.. well i will apply it and i'll be like that Scrubs guy in Garden State.. which turned out to be a good film.. not as good as The World's Fastest Indian but yeah i think it was warm yet dark in most places.. both movies were definitely worth the wait..
anyway Jeff Lucas was really enjoyable.. i reckoned the night service was really good but was quite tired and wanted to watch CSI:Miami and Garden State on DVD.. and did quite a bit, as u should when the sun's out.. man it was warm in Dunners.. so warm it could have been Malaysia.. well if u were in my car..
had Leader's meeting and couldn't believe we spent over an hour in two lines facing each other and getting to know each other.. Dan's trying to make it a tradition for each Leader's meeting.. which is not surprising why it didn't happen last year.. but anyway it was p cool, even though knew most of the ppl.. turned up to be a good catch up and get to know other life group leaders for next year.. yeah it was a p good time to get to know more abt other ppl coz u usually don't do that after church on Sunday.. finally now know when Phil and Casey are getting married and how they got to know each other..
after that hour and Dan talking abt lifegroups, went to Sam's - i mean the two Dave's, see Sam u still have an impact in Dunners - for a Dave H's barbie.. quite a few ppl there, e.g. the Ramsay street boys, Paul, Jian, Lizzie, Miriam, Philippa, Pierre, Dave's flatmates, Justin - who prayed for me an awesome prayer during leader's, so thanks heaps.. it was p brief actually coz the boys went to the Lambra for touch.. and there were heaps of ppl there..
but it was a good game.. before that, had a bit of fun with Bena, Jojo, Steve Gwyn, Lusi who seemed to be baby-sitting the Griffiths children.. later discovered that Pastor Mike is p enthusiastic abt the rugby and prob was once captain.. but three-on-three touch is v exhausting for me so went across to the middle where saw the guys playing.. Chris McDonald could have played for Southland in another life.. they had some really good players those Student Life, Apo, etc. ppl
it was a great game, prob the best i've ever had.. and the weather was just so warm.. later, after finding some shorts - yes shorts, Lizzie, my fashion sense isn't that bad ;) - Lizzie, Philippa made their touch debuts.. they looked like they enjoyed it.. couldn't take advantage of their newness and the resulting gaps coz Dave Pom, proudly sporting Chilean colours, managed to cover them p well.. did score a great try though, busting through a gap and running to score... did the Trent-Barrett-5-push-ups celebration.. but yeah i really enjoyed it.. felt played p well.. even with bare feet..
after that, just felt wanted to do more with the sun out - hopefully don't develop malenoma coz dint have sun screen but i'm Asian - so went to St. Clair for a quick dip to cool down, and also sanitise the scratches i got from the really sparse Lambra pitch - and let's not even think abt the spitting on the field.. then was lucky to meet two guys at the nets at the Albion CC.. they gave me some valuable lessons abt batting.. i can say that i definitely have no control with my batting, esp pace.. but yeah it was p good to get ppl bowling to u although got some p good blows.. i'm really keen to play cricket except i won't be in Dunners for most of the summer.. still will go on Thursday night for training with Albion..
so yeah p good weekend all in all.. Otago, Chris Smylie, Kiwis, Jeff Lucas, Lizzie, cricket..
oh yeah did go to see World's Fastest Indian in the end and yeah that was a v good decision.. that's the best film i've seen this year, and that includes Return of the Sith, Finding Neverland - that one's more 2004 - etc.. it brought a tear to the eye seeing the style of houses at the start coz they're everywhere in this part of New Zealand - brick, windows, chimney.. yeah but really really enjoyed it and i thought Anthony Hopkins did a really good Kiwi impression.. and it's only the cut version.. can't wait to see the original film fest version..
