day 2 in Cromwell

decided not to go out to Bannockburn tonight coz was out quite late - well 11pm is when ya have to be up at 7 am the next morning! so here i am blogging on my landlady's computer..she has jetstream but still.. anyway, weather has been fantastic for the last 2 days.. perhaps too hot but to be expected when ya in the heart of a desert!

vineyard work is kinda what i expected.. it's nice to know that breaks are always on time - so far.. coz the work can be p hard.. esp on ur hands! my hands are as coarse as sandpaper and it's just day 2.. got several splinters in my left hand which should come out in a couple of days.. had a big one which kinda penetrated my left thumb! so far, have been out to the Carrick vineyard in Bannockburn and today and tomorrow will be out in Bendigo.. nice thing is my boss is picking me up for these few days so should save up on petrol.. although managed to find a gas station which has petrol at the same price as Dunners..

i've been pass Cromwell many times on the way and coming from Queenstown or the West Coast.. but never through it.. have to say it's a lovely town in the middle of one of the most beautiful parts of NZ.. it's p small townish unlike Queenstown and it gets really quiet in town at night.. nothing to shout abt the town centre apart from the fact that it's p newish since it's really been up since 1990... but yeah it's got a p nice feel to it..

anyway i'm staying with my landlady in the old part of Cromwell, and she's been very very nice to me.. it's a very nice house and it's got quite a few things.. yeah it's been excellent, far better than i expected.. and as i type this i notice she has a Newsboys Devotion CD.. should only advertise in the church bulletin from now on.. get nice ppl.. anyway i'm the only one staying in Cromwell, while the others are either on the Mullers' walnut farm or Teri's aunt's vineyard.. to be fair i'm quite happy where i am.. $80 a week so can cover it each week with what i'm earning at the vineyard, weather hoping of coz but the good news is that it hardly rains in the desert.. although it is forecast to rain in patches tomorrow..

it is a change in lifestyle.. i am trying to make it seem that way.. trying to rough it out.. coz when u're working at the vineyard esp without ur car, u're p much roughing it out.. they've got some nice sheds nowadays but still it is p rough conditions.. u tend to discover more of yaself when ya in the wild.. still it's great to be able to see the Dunstan Ranges still slightly covered with snow and the scenery around it.. it's more than i could ask for...

anyway, should prob go.. this weekend planning to go to Queenstown and camp overnight somewhere.. then wake up and find a pub with Sky and watch the ABs take on England at 3.30 in the morning.. i'm thinking of working on a Saturday but definitely not this Sat.. then again it may not happen coz it's really the only time to do stuff with the guys.. we get off work at 4.30 at my vineyard but by the time u're home u're p much knackered, dirty, covered in dust and reluctant to do anything else.. will see.. not keen to spend too much here coz want to see how much i actually end up earning.. my biggest fear is obviously spending more than i earn! unlikely unless i go crazy but just have to be frugal..

so that it's for now.. will blog when i actually can.. again..
