and it felt really great!! a challenge for Cutting Edge's Ranfurly Shield was held this afternoon in the MTC room between the holders from the Missions Night, Nicola and Monica's LG, and two other lifegroups - Josh Bruce's consisting of Martin and James - was it? sorry forgot to ask names - and Matt's consisting of me and Shannon..
after the formalities of lunch, the challenge commenced.. with a game of Twister.. well three games of Twister to decide who held the Super Cutting Edger.. in game 1, Josh's team go out early, before Philippa from Nicola's LG finally falls as Matt and Dave twist their way to a 1-0 lead with a superb performance in endurance and strategy..
game 2, and a strong comeback from the holders thanks to Nicola's performance anchoring her life group to level the series.. once again, Josh's team go out early while following Shannon's brave effort to stretch across the board for over 10 mins, Matt held out bravely while the Nics tangled their way out of trouble..
and so to game 3, and Josh, Martin and James knew that they needed this one win to take the challenge series to a 4th game.. well, despite the best efforts of Nicola cheering on her team, their LG's grip on the Super Cutting Edger, leaving Dave and Martin to battle out for the next epic 30 minutes.. it was almost as good as the Ashes.. well it was better coz there were no dot balls.. while it held the same elements as a 5-day test match.. endurance and just waiting for the crucial moment.. well elements which make sport enjoyable anyway..
twisting past red, blue, green and yellow with their limbs and hands, it was Martin who had the pressure of trying to get back into contention, while it was Dave who had the pressure of trying to finish off the series.. and it seemed luck was on Dave's side - well that was from Shannon's view at least.. finally despite a valiant effort, it was Martin who ceded first.. Dave stepped off his spots anticipating the celebration, but came back on.. just in case.. in the end, it was confirmed.. Matt's LG had snatched the Super Cutting Edger..
the celebrations will continue for a while.. while there may be a parade down George Street with the mower ala Otago-winning-the-Ranfurly-Shield style, there is no doubt there will be a challenge to the boys.. perhaps from the girls.. or just more boys just to keep the pride within the same sex.. i'm p keen to challenge the likes of Joe, Sam, Jess, Louise, etc..
and there is no doubt that there is some form of windfall from this success.. along with the "mower" came the "basket" with goodies.. great for LGs and picnics..
may the gloating go on :) never has Dave ever actually won "something" for a team.. feels real good... unlike Steven Gerrard or Glenn McGrath, i'm not going to sleep with the trophy tonight :) but it'll be in front of my bed..
hope to try and get some pics with me and me new friend.. and some pics of the challenge from Nicola..
